About the Author- Holding the books

I love reading, and find such character in printed books, so just looking on Amazon was never going to work for me. Today I went to Waterstones and found as many authors as I could on my list.

Because I was home educated, I didn't read a lot of the 'classics' so I thought I would try and explore these different authors, like Harper Lee and Edgar Allen Poe, but I found it difficult to disassociate the prestige of their works with the writing, and I just found them a lot less personal.

Which authors did I not like?
Harper Lee
Aldous Huxley
Edgar Allen Poe
Donna Tartt

Which did I like?
George Orwell
Italo Calvino
Franz Kafka
Patricia Highsmith
Haruki Murakami

Who could I not find??
Leonora Carrington
Naomi Klein
Susan Sontag
Malcolm Gladwell
Leonora Carrington
Lin Yutang

After looking more online, I really want to see the writing styles of both Leonora Carrington and Lin Yutang, so need to go to a bigger bookstore maybe?

GOOD
BAD
Might go to some of these?

About the Author- Initial research

THIS IS SUCH A HUGE TASK !!

Something I really struggle with is decision making, and when faced with the task of choosing just ONE author from a list of almost THIRTY I'm really dreading the start!

I've had a quick look on wikipedia and crossed out a few people whose life I didn't think was too interesting to me, I also didn't want to work on someone I already knew a lot about, so took off most of the more famous names at the start.

This left me with:
Italo Calvino
Donna Tartt
Franz Kafka
Patricia Highsmith
Aldous Huxley
Edgar Allen Poe
Lin Yutang
Naomi Klein
Susan Sontag
Haruki Murakami
Harper Lee
George Orwell
Leonora Carrington
Neil Gaiman

The next thing I'm going to do is go to a bookshop and actually have a look at their books and get a feel for which authors I prefer.
