About the Author- Book

Since I had my stings finished with some spare time, I thought I may as well compile my images and text into a small publication

- Because of all the practise I had in After Effects and photoshop over this project, I was able to fairly quickly set up the layout so that I could Japanese bind my book, as I think this links to cultures similar to Yutangs, as well as continuing his attention to detail and time invested in things

FINAL OUTCOME:

What was successful?
- I invested a lot of time practising the binding method, as it was brand new to me, and I really enjoyed the precision and effect I got from it
- Although the layout is simple, I like how there is a strong contrast between whiter pages and full colour
- I believe the actual assembly of the book is of a fairly high quality, if it were my final I would print, bind and trim again, but since my prints are the final and this is simply an extra, I am going to leave it and focus on other modules

What would I change?
- Because of difficulties I had whilst trimming, I had to exclude the white edges, however I quite like this effect, and I wish I had continued it on the images to the spine
- I think Japanese bind is made for use with more pages, as I had a couple of gaps in mine, even though the thread was as tight as it could be, although I'm happy with the outcome, I need to consider the appropriateness of binding in the future
- The quality of the type could be better, I scaled up text I already had for some of them, and the pixelation is visible, I should have scanned them in a higher dpi
- I could have invested more time into the cover, it is fairly simple and I would have liked to play around with more ideas before printing

What did I learn?
- How to Japanese bind books, and the broad range of binding techniques available to me
- That even after a project is 'finished' I can always revisit and make something new if I want - what does 'finished' really mean?
- More complexities of layout and printing within book design
