Roundhay Park

Today I visited Tropical World  at Roundhay Park in Leeds in order to form the starting point for my project. I found the animals and experiences there were varied and interesting, such as being terrified by the two massive bird rooms, and delighted by the extremely interactive butterfly room. I took many photographs, but struggled to draw the animals as they often moved to quickly, especially the butterflies, meaning afterwards I had difficulty in capturing the feel and theme of the day. In addition, although I enjoyed the experience of the day, I wasn’t particularly taken with any of the stimuli present, and struggled to see how I could develop them further. Therefore, I decided that I will choose a different location to study later on this week, which I think will be between:
Sheffield, an allotment, abandoned buildings or a bookies, as I feel they all offer a wide range of visual starting points for narratives.

In order to make this research day more informative I could have drawn more on location, collected ephemera and interviewed/spoke with the visitors and staff in order to give me a wide and varied range of research from which to begin developing work for my project.
