Applied Illustration- Product Research

The four main suppliers of camouflage creams who work with Changing Faces are Keromask, Covermark, Dermablend, Kryolan and Veil. Below are examples of the products on their websites tailored to skin camouflage:

It was good to get an idea of the products which are used by sufferers, and I was extremely disappointed by their physical appearance and how clinical they looked

THOUGHTS:

- The products willingness to hide the contents (with the exception of Keromask sample kit), which makes it feel even more like they are trying to hide what is inside, rather than being proud of it
- WHITE- Everything is so white and clean and empty, they feel like they have no sympathy and I would feel very disheartened if I felt like I had to use this every day
- The names and type design show an extremely clinical and medical ethos to their products, rather than normal make up ranges
- The standardisation is so bold, without any variation in design or colour except to represent the actual colour of the product
- The products seem positioned between medical and basics, which feels like a way to keep people hooked on them as they view them as a necessity

WHAT WILL I AIM TO DO:

- Celebrate the product and the people who use them, I want the packaging to be recognisable for what it is to promote confidence and awareness about skin disfigurement
- I want to celebrate colour and vibrancy, my designs will be something people will want to use everyday because they look good and make the person feel good
- My designs will echo the differences between the people with these conditions and highlight how beautiful these differences are
- I will also try to include elements of self confidence promotion, so that the people using these products will hopefully begin to feel confident without them
