I saw Kate Gibb and William Luz at the Hepworth print fair this weekend, where they were exhibiting as the collective Touching Elbows.
WHAT DID I DISCOVER?
- They work exclusively collaboratively on this project, they just layer onto different prints as and when they want, meaning some are several, thick layers of print
- They created many sets of prints and chose the most successful for their collaborative
WHAT DO I LIKE?
- I love how certain shapes fit together and others are jarring with each other, as this juxtaposition is an interesting manifestation of the process of their work
- I like the transparency to some shapes, which allows the lower shapes to breathe and show through, adding to the depth and story of the piece.
- I really love the different textures evidenced on the prints, as this creates a lot of interest and points of difference within their work
WHAT WILL I DO?
- Ensure I am free during the making process and allow designs to flow and develop freely without too much constraint
- I want to ensure that I use the shapes compositionally to their best affects and see how I can make them naturally fit together.
