My final piece for The Handsome Family is a mix of lino and mono printing
POSITIVES:
- The lino and mono print work well to create a handmade, unique vibe, which I feel fits the theme of the song well
- I decided when I was in the print room to use a gold instead of red, as I didn't want it to look festive, and I think it works really well to add a bit of professionalism to a fairly rough design
- I really like the full bleed on the print and the use of white space to carve out an image
NEGATIVES:
- The quality of the print could be stronger, which I think is due to me not having enough padding in the press
- I struggled with the registration slightly, but I actually quite like how it doesn't line up perfectly, and reflects the nature of traditional print
- Some of the lines are quite wobbly, which I think is due to me rushing my lino cutting due to pressures on my time from other modules
WHAT HAVE I LEARNT?
- I will need to make sure I do several test prints if I am unsure about the press pressure in the future
- Think about ways to properly register print layers
- Remember to reflect on other time constraints and make tasks smaller if necessary to get them completed
