Collage

Aims
To produce a poster made only from found imagery which communicates an imaginary event.
Although I like the aesthetic of this piece, I struggled to come up
with an event for it. Collage is about RE-APPROPRIATION so
needs to alter tone/meaning more!

Simple and silly but quite like the tone with which it now
communicates
Intent
Collage is all about re-appropriation, and creating images which are universally recognised while still maintain some of the unique visual signature of the maker.

"The magic of collage is it’s ability to bastardise and subvert existing imagery, often with low-fi applications. Because of this, collage based work often has a sense of the authentic and anarchic about it."

Evaluation
After my first attempt, which I liked the look of, but didn't feel communicate a message, I wanted to try a more silly take which really pushed what an imaginary even could be, so I looked at what a 'body swap' event would look like. I quite liked my second outcome, as it was a lot more humorous and I even like the more lo-fi appearance of it as it helps to communicate the flippant nature of the work.

Questions
How can I use collage in my future work? Can I try and combine collage and hand rendered imagery?
Could I mix solid shape with image collage for interesting results?

Rocía Montoya:
What I like most about Montoya's work are the well thought out composition and exquisite crafting,  as it seamlessly joins different photography with such precision that a new meaning is created which completely takes over the connotations of the now re-appropriated images.

In addition the contrast between black and white and colour is really something with I would like to explore more, as the stark contrast helps to remind the audience that it is an image created from the bones of old ones, which imbues a whole new sense of meaning and importance to the piece.
