Printing

Today I printed my final version of my concertina book in the digital print studio. I chose a matt paper and ended up printing two copies side by side for the same price, I then cut my paper down using a ruler and scalpel before using the paper folding machine to construct my book. I then used the heavy duty guillotine to trim down the edges so they were straight and uniform.

What I struggled with?
- Working out how to construct different layouts in inDesign, which James helped me with
- I struggled cutting the paper initially, and had to recut parts of one of the books, and it was still not quite right, so I treated this one as the test piece
- Folding the book was also something I found difficult to start with, as I knocked the measuring device halfway through so it was slightly out, meaning my first attempt didn't work very well

What worked out well?
- I really like how vibrant the colours came out after printing, which might have been down to the paper choice
- My choice of paper was the crisp white one, which I think helps to show off my artwork well and has a nice clean finish and feel to it
- The construction of my cover also went really well as I used a scalpel to shape the tabs to keep the jacket together

What have I learnt?
- How to move images in inDesign and successfully lay out designs for print
- How to operate the paper folding machine effectively
- How mass and high quality printing is achieved
