Developing a character

I decided that the character research I had done was quite limited, and so after looking at the character work of some of my peers, I wanted to look at more shape based ways to look at character.
Although I ended up deciding one a pared down version of my previous work, I think looking as simple, two colour characters has made me think about what I really want my images to show and not over complicate them by making them realistic.

Best bits?
- Simplistic nature
- Scale of head to body
- Crisp difference of colours- brightens up piece

What didn't work?
- Line around shoes- creates too much of a barrier
- Block colour for heads too in your face
- Long head shape wouldn't create as much visual contrast when all the coats are on

What will I do next?
- Look at how different angles of the head would work
- Look at how to show emotions through eyes/ mouth
- Think of placement of hair- over/under clothes
