Greetings from- 2am

Last night I slept very restlessly, and woke at 2 thinking about my project. When I woke up I vaguely remembered sketching in my book, and this is what I found.

Although they are very rough and don't look particularly good, I think these drawings really demonstrate what I was thinking and my thought processes of planning my designs. The intent of these sleep deprived scribbles was to communicate my planning of the designs so that I would remember in the morning, and this has really worked.

Before I was quite scared to 'mess up' my book with rough sketches, but after seeing how helpful these are, next time I have a quick random thought I'll make sure I scribble them down to show what I'm thinking at that time.

How can I translate this into illustrator? Maybe use the the expand tool? Or just line over the top?
Experiment with blank space around colour?

I found Tzoni's work really inspirational, as her simple, laid out designs mirror the homemade effect offered by the loose texture.

I also really like the striking compositions and contrasting colours which help to add interest to her otherwise fairly simple designs. This is something which I would really love to experiment with in my work since I am quite concerned that they may be a bit too simple.
