Greetings from- Final Postcards

My final pieces reflect the main shellfish export of these major, but often overlooked fishing ports around the world.

Leigh-on-Sea, England
Port Lincoln, Australia
Napier, New Zealand
Portland, Maine, America
My intent with these postcards was for them to be purchased by people who visit these places and will either be sent to loved ones or kept as a souvenir. I feel that due to the simple but striking nature this has been achieved.

I think they suit the places they are based on as well, since they are mainly unknown, quiet places, except Portland, so I wanted to create not too stereotypically 'touristy' outcomes, which reflected the natural nature of these cities. I also feel that the Portland one still reflects the feel of the city as the message behind the images is the cities reliance on these shellfish goods, and how this has built up the city, so I feel this revelation of Portland's dependance on oysters fits with the quiet, natural theme I have built.

Overall I found this experience very beneficial to my learning, as I had never really used Illustrator before this project, and I found the tutorial sessions and independent learning complimented each other well, as I was able to experiment on my own with how to achieve effects, whilst using the base skills I learnt in the induction.

I will definitely use illustrator again in future projects, as I really got to grips with the software and feel confident in the basic workings of the programme. I would love to experiment more with it in the future. I also found the fact that I didn't have Illustrator on my laptop actually quite helpful, as it meant I had to stay at university late which ensured I did more work. I ended up staying in until 7 or 8pm most evenings this week, which helped me with my time management and ensured I had enough time at the end to finalise my designs and not rush them.
